This exterior porch that was seldom used was completely enclosed to give these clients a space to take in the beautiful woods that surrounds their home. It was very narrow and we weren’t expanding it but we packed it full of function and charm. New hand scraped, distressed, whitewashed wood set the tone for this casual, comfortable space. Natural stone was added at the entrance and under the glass sided, gas fireplace. New soft, furnishings with lots of details like the tape and nailhead trim provides interest. A black ceiling fan and industrial lighting add just the right touch. A wool sisal rug gives comfort an warmth underfoot while new accessories like the lamps and mirror lend a rustic element. The porch is an L shape and we made use of that by adding the clients harvest table for dining al fresco style, but without the bugs. The custom designed doors, with that amazing hardware, were painted a soft blue as was the ceiling, and are a special feature. The windows let in tons of light and make the most of the beautiful views. The porch adjoins the seating area in the kitchen, through French doors and carries on with the cream and blue colour scheme found there. The side entrance was enhanced with the stone floor, and new landscaping that brings visitors from the driveway, around the house, to the new side glass doors.
